BOX SCORE (PDF)

BROOKLINE, Mass. – In their second straight home game, the Northeastern Huskies (20-21-1) bounced back from an extra innings loss to beat the Hartford Hawks (6-28) by a score of 3-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Friedman Diamond.

  • Hartford tallied the first run of the ballgame on a solo shot to left field to lead 1-0.
  • The Huskies answered back in the bottom of the inning with three singles in a row to on their way to a three run inning – the second batter of the inning, Mark Darakjy, reached base after being hit by a pitch, and he was advanced to second on a single by Kyle Hoog.
  • Darakjy scored on an RBI single by JP Olson to right field, and Hoog ran to third.
  • Jack Thorbahn gave the Huskies the lead with a single through the gap in the left side of the infield to score Hoog, making it 2-1.
  • After a wild pitch sent the runners to second and third, Jack Doyle hit a deep ground out to first base allowing Olson to score from third making it 3-1.
  • The Huskies pitching staff settled in after that and held the Hawks to just the one run.
  • Starter Jake Gigliotti (W, 2-0) went five innings allowing three hits and just the one run - he walked one but struck out five on the afternoon, a new career high for him.
  • The Huskies saw some one-inning performances from Michael Gemma (0 hits, 1 walk), and Hayden Smith (career debut, 2 hits, 0 runs) in the sixth and seventh innings to keep the Hawks in check.
  • In the sixth, the Hawks had runners at the corners and attempted a delayed steal of home after the first runner took off for second - Spenser Smith recognized the situation and threw the ball right back to JP Olson at home who delivered the tag to keep the Hawks off the scoreboard in the inning.
  • James Quinlivan entered the game in the eighth and struck out all three batters he faced.
  • Owen Langan got the save pitching the final inning with no hits or walks and one strikeout.
