ELON, N.C. – In the winners' bracket semifinals, Northeastern (30-28-1) fell to Hofstra (29-21), in extra-innings by a score of 8-7.
After falling behind early, the Huskies rallied to take the lead in the sixth inning, and tied the game in the top of the ninth, but for the second straight game, the Pride walked off to advance in the winner's bracket.
- The Huskies drew first blood with an RBI ground out by JP Olson, scoring Corey DiLoreto who hit a double to begin the game.
- Hofstra jumped out to an early lead with two home runs in the opening frame, leading Northeastern 5-1 after one.
- The Huskies chipped away at the lead inning by inning, tallying two in the second, and one in the fourth: the two runs in the second came on RBI singles from Luke Masiuk and Spenser Smith, and in the fourth by Smith, scoring Luke Beckstein.
- Nick Davis took over on the mound in relief and went 3.0 full innings, not allowing a baserunner until his fourth frame. He struck out two in his outing.
- The Northeastern defense went to work, keeping Hofstra off the scoreboard long enough for the lead to be cut to 5-4.
- With one out in the top of the sixth, Buddy Mrowka singled to left field, and Luke Masiuk blasted a 2-2 count over the left field wall for his second career home run to lead, 6-5.
- Hofstra pulled ahead for its second lead of the day with two sacrifice flyouts to lead 7-6 in the seventh.
- Down to their last chance, the Huskies tied the game after Jeff Costello smacked the first pitch of the inning to left field for a double, and JP Olson hit him home with an RBI single. Hofstra snuffed the rally at the one run, halting the score at 7-7.
- Jordy Allard took the mound in the bottom of the ninth and began the inning with a strikeout and a ground-out, and after allowing two runners to reach, a force-out at third by Buddy Mrowka forced the 10th frame.
- After Hofstra was able to keep Northeastern off the bases to start the 10th, the Pride walked it off in the bottom of the inning on back to back doubles to win 8-7.
The Huskies will face #1 Charleston in the loser-bracket finals Saturday afternoon, with a scheduled first pitch of 3pm.
