PHILADELPHIA— Powered by a two-goal performance from freshman
Vivian Akyirem, the third-seeded Northeastern women's soccer team downed the second-seeded Drexel Dragons, 2-0, in the CAA Semifinals on Sunday afternoon at Vidas Field. The Huskies will now host the eighth-seeded Hofstra Pride on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 1 p.m. at Parsons Field for the CAA Championship game.
Northeastern has now appeared in the CAA Championship game in back-to-back seasons.
- Just under five minutes into the game, graduate student goalkeeper Holland Stam made three crucial saves to prevent an early Drexel goal. Stam and the Husky defense kept the Dragons in check as the two sides played to a scoreless first half.
- In the second, freshman Vivian Akyirem broke the scoreless deadlock in the 51st minute to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead, with sophomore Megan Putvinski tallying an assist. Akyirem's goal was her 12th of the year.
- Akyirem closed out the scoring with another tally, marking her 13th goal of the season. Junior Jessie Hunt tallied her 13th assist of the season on Akyirem's goal. Akyirem is just the fourth Husky ever to record 13 goals in a single-season.
- Through two CAA Tournament games, Akyirem has scored all four of the Huskies' goals.
- Stam posted her eighth shutout of the season with eight saves on the day.
