BOSTON – Northeastern men's rowing head coach
Alex Perkins is thrilled to announce the promotion of
Trevor Appier to Associate Head Coach. Most recently, Appier has been a recruiting coordinator, and spent the past three seasons as an assistant coach after joining the staff as a volunteer assistant in March 2020.
"I am excited to announce Trevor's promotion to Associate Head Coach," said Perkins. "Trevor has been with the program as both an athlete and a coach for many years and has done a tremendous job with the group. I know both myself and the team are excited for him to continue with the squad in his new role. Trevor has proven that he is a top-level recruiter and will take on a large role in that space. He is respected and trusted by parents and athletes alike and has proven to be an integral part of the team. I know we all look forward to his continued work with the program!"
Appier, recently guided the Huskies to a sixth-place finish in the first varsity at the IRA Championships, up two spots from an eighth place finish in 2021-22. Northeastern had strong performances in each boat at the national championships in which all three reached the A/B Semifinal, the first varsity advanced to the Grand Final for the third time in the last four championships (2023, 2021, 2019), after an exciting semifinal race that saw the Huskies overtake rival Harvard in the final meters of the race.
"I'm honored to step into the Associate Head Coach role, and to continue to work with Head Coach
Alex Perkins as we begin the next stage of developing Northeastern Men's Rowing," said Appier. "Being able to coach at my alma mater is something very special to me, and I feel lucky to work with the athletes and staff here at a Northeastern. Thankful for the opportunity and excited to get faster as a team. "
Alongside Perkins, Appier collected the IRCA Leadership Award this past season, given annually to a coach or administrator who has shown great leadership and become a role model for collegiate rowing.
Prior to returning to Northeastern in 2020, Appier served as an Associate Head Coach at Boston College where he helped the Eagles to a program-best finish at the Head of the Charles. BC also went from 17
th to second in one year at the ARCA National Championship.
Appier rowed for Northeastern from 2013-2017, and was captain in 2017. He medaled at Eastern Sprints twice (gold in JV in 2014 and silver in varsity in 2015), is a grand finalist at the IRA Championships in the varsity and JV eights, and competed in the Henley Royal Regatta twice.
