Al Pajonas was elected to the Hall of Fame for his accomplishments in the sports of basketball and baseball.

Pajonas was New England's premier middle infielder and also a standout basketball player for the Huskies. Pajonas, whose skills were sharpened under the eyes of coaches Edward "Putty" Parsons and Herb Gallagher, batted .360 for his career. After his NU days were over, Pajonas had a tryout with the famed New York Yankees juggernaut of that era. He spent many years starring in the Yankee's top farm system. For three straight years, he was an All New England selection and the team enjoyed great success. The Huskies were 36-7 over Pajonas' three year varsity career. He also earned three letters as a high scoring guard in basketball. He co-captained the 1941-42 squad, and had games of 31 and 33 points. After his stint with baseball ended, Pajonas turned to teaching and coaching in up state New York. He would teach English and Economics while coaching football, baseball and basketball during a 30-year career at Mount Assumption High School in Plattsburgh, New York. From 1948 to 1964 he racked up 100 victories in each sport and garnered five football championships.

Pajonas has enjoyed retirement in the Sarasota area with his wife Mary. The two have raised four children: Bill, Kathryn, Margaret and Mitchell.
