James P. O'Shaughnessy has been elected to the Hall of Fame for his accomplishments in the sport of track and field.

O'Shaughnessy, the first athlete in Husky history to garner eight letters in two sports, capped a stellar career that blossomed from cross country into indoor and outdoor track by setting the University record in the 1,000 yard run. He was also a member of the University record holding mile and two-mile relay squads- both indoors and outdoors- and captured the Greater Boston 1,000 yard championship in 1965. His gliding style helped him to the GBC 1,000 title and a fifth place finish at the IC4A meet in New York as a sophomore. Junior season saw him continue to cement his reputation by running the mile in a personal best, placing second in the indoor GBC 1,000 and third in the outdoor GBC half-mile race.

O'Shaughnessy met his wife, Mary while at Northeastern. His Northeastern athletics legacy was continued by his son Jay, who pitched for two season for the Huskies before being drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1994. James and Mary also have two other children, Michael and Jeff.
