John G. Baynes was elected to the Hall of Fame for his accomplishments in the field of athletic training.

Baynes was the University's head athletic trainer at Northeastern for parts of three decades, arriving in 1971 and leaving in 1995. After one season as an assistant trainer, he was promoted to head athletic trainer. In very short time, Baynes asserted himself as a primary cog in the development of varsity athletics at NU, and as a leader in the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA). Baynes framed a Northeastern athletic landscape dotted by some of its greatest luminaries. In 1979, Baynes was elected a NATA District Coordinator. Athletic Trainer of the Year honors came in 1985, which made it even easier for the NATA governing board to tab him as their vice president. The Association's Distinguished Service Award in 1993 and the Cramer Award for outstanding contributions to Athletic Training in 1991 are the most recent proof of personal courage and professional resiliency.

Baynes and his wife Connie moved to Arizona after leaving Northeastern in 1995, where Baynes now provides athletic training services to the Santa Rita secondary school system. Connie and jack are the proud parents of Sharon and Alan, both graduates of Northeastern.
