Ernie E. Mills was elected to the Hall of Fame for his accomplishments in the sport of track and field.

Mills was captain of the cross country and track teams in the mid-1940's, and won the Alumni Track Trophy as Most Valuable Performer in 1946. Mills, a long distance specialist, lettered in track in 1944, '45 and '46, and in cross country in 1943, '44 and '46. He captained the Husky indoor and outdoor track team in 1944 and 1945, and led the Husky harriers over hill and dale in 1943 and '44.

Running would be just a small portion of Mill's allotment. Mills has been the chief timer at Northeastern home meets since 1955, and an advisor and engineer for the layout of NU Track Facilities, most notably the Solomon Track in Dedham, Mass. As a member of the Massachusetts Track and Field Association, Mills has been primarily responsible for the field events portion of the entrance and grade exams given to present and potential officials. Mills, who became a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Northeastern in 1949, also resided over the many amendments to the Northeastern track and Field record book, and for over 30 years has been the official record keeper and statistician for the Huskies.

While on the track oval, Mills established some of the records he would later change in his Track Bible of records. He set the Northeastern watershed for 600 yards when he won the title at that distance in the 1946 NEAAU Indoor Championships. After Northeastern, Mills stayed in competitive form while running for the Boston Athletic Association cross country and relay team from 1946-55.
