Moxley caught and held the attention of hoop cognoscenti with a magical blend of raw toughness and finesse at power forward. As a sophomore in the 1969-70 season, he earned the Most Valuable Player Award, averaging 14.5 points per game while leading the team in rebounding. His scoring average improved to 15.5 a game as a junior, and again was team MVP. Moxley was a unanimous choice for captain for the 1971-72 season. He capped off his career with a third team MVP, averaging a career best 17.5 points per game. In his final game versus Army, Moxley notched his 1,000th career point, placing him at the time in seventh place on NU's all-time scoring list.
