John L. Malvey, was elected to the Hall of Fame for his achievements in the sport of basketball.

A Little All America during the seasons ending in 1962 and 1964, Malvey led his team to the 1962 and 1963 National Small College Championships in Evansville, Indiana. He set school records in total career points with 1,170 and most field goals in a career with 488. Malvey, who accomplished these feats in only three years of varsity basketball, still stands as the University's 13th leading scorer of all time. Malvey was voted to the All East team in both 1963 and 1964, All New England in 1962, '63 and '64, and was Northeastern's MVP in 1963 and '64. Malvey led the Huskies to New England regional titles in 1962 with an 80-69 win over Fairfield and in 1963 with a 47-45 victory over Springfield. In national competition, the Huskies fell to Wittenburg during his junior year and Southern Illinois in his sophomore season. With Malvey as captain in 1964, the team again reached the regionals only to bow 68-66 to Adelphi. In his three years of varsity competition, he averaged 15.8 points per game while the Huskies won 55 and lost 22.

Malvey, a 1959 graduate of Somerville High School, went on to be the head basketball coach at Malden Catholic High School for eight years.
