D. Raymond Picard was elected to the Hall of Fame for his achievements in the sport of ice hockey.

Picard an ice hockey goalie of superb skills was voted the goalie to both the 1952 and 1953 All America hockey teams, making him the University's first All America. He completely dominated the local hockey scene while at Northeastern being named the All New England goalie in all of his playing seasons. In his junior and senior years, 1952 and 1953, he won the Leonard M. Fowle Award as New England's Most Outstanding Player and the Walter A. Brown Award for the Most Outstanding American College Hockey Player in New England. After his graduation in 1953 he signed a contract with the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and played for their farm team the Worcester Warriors in the season of 1953-54.

After his high school graduation from Rindge Technological High School in Cambridge in 1946, where he was the first string All Scholastic goalie, Picard spent two years in the United States Marine Corps. Before entering Northeastern, he also played for the Boston Junior Olympics and was voted the Most Valuable Player in the 1948 United States Amateur Championships.
