Crystal Corbeil-Muse, a native of Biddeford main and currently residing in Wallkill, New York, has been elected to the Northeastern University Varsity club Hall of Fame for excellence in the sport of track & field. Muse, Class of 1995, will be inducted along with four others in formal ceremonies at Northeastern’s Matthews Arena in Boston, Mass., on Thursday, April 14.

A ten-time America East Conference champion, Muse graduated Northeastern with school records in the women’s weight throw and hammer throw, and finished fourth in the hammer throw at the 1996 Olympic Trials.

Before Northeastern Muse was a multi-sport star at Biddeford High School in Biddeford, Maine. She played three years of varsity field hockey and four years of varsity basketball, captaining the latter her senior year. Her calling, of course, was track and field: a two-year team captain, Muse began in Biddeford the legacy she would continue at Northeastern and at the Olympic Trials. Her sophomore year she earned the first of three consecutive state championships in the outdoor shot put. For her senior season, Muse expanded her repertoire with state titles in the indoor shot put and outdoor javelin.

In the fall of 1990 Muse matriculated at Northeastern and quickly set about rewriting the record books. By the end of her freshman campaign Muse had already collected four America East titles, in the hammer throw, weight throw and indoor and outdoor shot put. For an encore, she repeated as conference champion in all four events the next year, and added an E.C.A.C. title in the outdoor shot put and a New England regional championship in the hammer throw. While at Northeastern Muse competed in her first of two Olympic trials, finishing eighth at the 1992 Trials in the hammer throw.

By the time she left Northeastern, Muse had cemented her legacy. As a junior she set the Northeastern record in the indoor weight throw with a mark of 46 feet, 31⁄2 inches. In her senior year she won her second ECAC title and the New England championship in the hammer throw, as well as her third America East outdoor shot put title. After setting the Husky hammer throw record in her senior – with a toss of 183 feet – she rode her wave of success to a second Olympic hammer throw trial, in 1996, where she finished fourth.

In 1995 Muse went to work as a programmer at Info Solutions, Inc., where she stayed until 2007. Since then she has owned and operated CMO Consulting in Modena, New York. She has been active in her community, serving as treasurer of the Plattekill PTA from 2008 to 2010, and as assistant VP of Wallkill Youth football in 2010. She married Tyrone Muse, Class of 1993 and himself a former Husky track star. Crystal and Tyrone live in Wallkill, New York with their two daughters, Mya and Olivia.
