Michael E. Holmes was elected to the Hall of Fame for his accomplishments in the sport of ice hockey.

With career totals of 25 goals and 127 assists in four varsity seasons, Holmes is the University's career assists leader and currently sits in tenth place on the all-time scoring list. NU's all-time leading scorer for defensemen, his 6-30-36 aggregate as a freshman earned him Rookie of the Year honors. Owner of superior ice vision and stick handling skills, Holmes proved his rookie season was no fluke as he came back with a 4-29-33 sophomore campaign, as the Huskies struggled through seven one goal contests. His leadership skills had become obvious, however, as he was named captain of the Huskies as a junior. He responded to the challenge with his marquee season, canning 10 goals and handing out 33 assist for a career best 43 points. He packaged his impressive junior season with the Most Valuable Player Award for the 1976-77 Huskies. A captain again as a senior, Holmes registered a six point night against Colgate, and finished the season with five goals and 30 assists. An amazingly consistent career at Northeastern paved the way to a tryout with the Boston Bruins. Holmes went on to play two full seasons in the Bruins organization, earning Best Defenseman honors both seasons.
