Charles J. Huck has been elected to the Northeastern Hall of Fame for his achievements in the sport of ice hockey.

Huck, Class of 1977, came to Huntington Ave. from Regina, Saskatchewan and was an impact player immediately. In just his second varsity game, he found the net for his first Northeastern goal. From then on, Huck enjoyed the most prolific season ever for an NU freshman. He finished the year with 23 goals, a new freshman record that still stands 27 years later. What makes that record even more remarkable is that for the past 20 years NU has been playing 25 percent more games. Huck's scoring punch enabled the Huskies to leap from a 6-20 season to a 17-12 record, their first winning campaign in seven years.

However, Huck was not the only star of the freshman class. He finished the season with 37 points, while classmate Jim Martel tallied 35 and Dave Sherlock 14 after being brought up from JV.

Following a summer of contemplation, Coach Fern Flaman threw his three sophomore phenoms on the same line, with Huck centering. The trio proved to be a most powerful offensive weapon. Huck led the scoring with 19 goals, while mates Martel and Sherlock chipped in 18 and 17 respectively.

The next season, the Huck line started the year by scoring 12 goals in the first three games. This monumental outburst earned them the nickname GAP line, for goal-a-period. The attack on opponents continued all season as NU finished 15-11-2 and the GAP line was the most productive in the nation. The line scored a total of 82 goals as Huck netted 27, Martel 32 and Sherlock 23. Huck also set a school record for assists in the 1974-75 season with 37 for a total of 64 points, which is the fifth-best season figure in team history. For the second straight year, Huck received Northeastern News Player of the Year honors. He also won the 1974-75 Alumni Trophy as Team MVP.

From a won-lost standpoint, Huck's senior season was disappointing as the team finished 9-16-1, losing six games by one goal. However, the GAP line continued to produce, notching 77 goals that year with Huck scoring 24, Martel 27 and Sherlock 26. Huck was named to the All- New England Team that season. His final career totals of 93 goals and 192 points both rank second in the Husky hierarchy.
