Varsity Club Hall of Fame
Francis X. "Inga" Walsh, who passed away in 2009, was inducted into the Hall of Fame for his achievements in the sports of basketball and baseball.
As a member of the induction class of 1974, Walsh was one of the original six inductees into the Northeastern Hall of Fame.
Walsh was a seven varsity letter man at Northeastern, winning four in basketball and three in baseball. In his final season of 1948-49 he captained the Husky "five" under coach Joe Zabilski. That season he was also selected All New England. Walsh was the first dominant player in Husky hoop history. He averaged 16.7 points per game over his career, an amazing figure considering the style of play that characterized his era, a slowed down version of today's run-and-gun games. His 1,060 total career points still is good for 18th on Northeastern's all-time scoring list. In the spring of 1949, he was drafted and signed by the New York Knickerbockers of the National Basketball Association. He was called into the Army during the Korean conflict in 1951 and spent two years overseas before returning to the University in 1953 to complete his degree.
